  • One of the ways to obtain permanent residency in Australia is through "skilled immigration". When preparing for this skilled immigration, the condition that is absolutely necessary is "skill assessment".

Skills assessment literally means evaluating the applicant's level of education and career experience in the occupation group and assessing whether the applicant's skills are suitable for immigration to Australia.

Since there are various types of Australian skilled immigration visas and occupation groups for each visa are different, if you are interested in skilled immigration, it is a good idea to learn about them earlier.

    • 190 Skilled Nominated visa

    • 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa

    • 186 Employer Nomination Scheme visa

After checking the requirements for each visa, if your career meets the requirements for the visa occupation, you can consider applying for a skilled migrant visa.

The Australian Immigration Service has designated relevant agencies for each occupation group to receive skills assessment (TRA, Vetassess, etc.), and since each agency has different assessment requirements, you must carefully research the criteria before applying.

You can find skill assessment organizations by searching for your occupation in the Search section of the link below.

  • The validity period of skill assessment also varies by each institution. Usually, if the validity period is not indicated separately on the result letter, it is 3 years. However, if the validity period is indicated as 2 years on the result letter, the 2-year validity period applies.

  • The TSS 482 Sponsored Visa also requires a skills assessment, but in some cases, it may not be required depending on the occupation and the nationality of the applicant.

For example, Korean nationals do not need a skill assessment when applying for a 482 visa.

However, Project Administrator and Specialist Manager positions require a skill assessment regardless of nationality.

  • A reference letter is absolutely necessary when applying for an Australian visa, such as a sponsored visa, TSS (482), ENS (186)/independent skilled migration (189, 190, 491), or skill assessment.

A reference letter is a document issued by an employer that contains the applicant's employment period and job details.

It is generally recommended that you request and receive a reference letter in advance before leaving the company. This is because it may be difficult to contact a company you worked for several years ago and receive it again, and problems may arise, such as when the company itself goes out of business.

    • Letterhead - Company logo, address, contact information, email, website (optional)

    • Period of employment - Specific date from date to (dd-mm-yyyy)

    • Employment type - Full-time / Part-time / Casual

    • Weekly work hours - How many hours did you work per week?

When including technical immigration experience points, you need at least 20 hours of experience per week, so it is a good idea to make this clear.

    • Job description - At least 5 or more

    • Signature: Title, name, and signature such as Director / HR manager / General manager are required.

  • In order to prove your career, you must submit “income verification documents” which are proof of your weekly or monthly salary during the period of employment at the company listed on your career certificate. Therefore, the career certificate and income verification documents must be submitted together.

  • Proof of employment in Australia is basically a Payslip and an Income statement.

A Payslip is a weekly, fortnightly or monthly salary slip.

An Income statement is a document that shows your total income and total tax for one year based on the Australian financial year (July 1 of the previous year - June 30 of the current year), and can be used as proof of employment.

  • Korean work experience can also be included when preparing for an Australian visa and skills assessment. If you have Korean work experience and need to prove your Korean income, please prepare the documents below in English.
