Residency Requirements

Permanent Residency: You must be a permanent resident of Australia (or New Zealand citizen).

Residence in Australia: You must have lived in Australia for a certain period before applying:
General Applicants :
(1) You need to have lived in Australia for at least 4 years, including 1 year as a permanent resident.
(2) Not have been absent from Australia for more than 12 months in total in 4 years, no more than 90 days in total in the 12 months immediately before applying.
(3) Australian Citizens by Descent: Generally, there is no residence requirement.

Good Character
You must be of good character. This is assessed based on your criminal record and other factors.

Knowledge of Australia
Citizenship Test : Most applicants between 18 ~ 59 years old must pass a citizenship test that covers Australian history, values, and laws.

Interview : You may be required to attend an interview as part of the application process.
